I am just correcting a couple of things from my first comment:
It's an excellent book! Perhaps he (a devoted Catholic author) set it in Arabia because they dealt with Mathematics first! My father used to read and quote from it to his ten children at dinner time... and the last chapter shows the protagonist's conversion to Christ--inexcusably ommitted in the English translation. I have my own translation of this last chapter as I have the Portuguese original--anyone may email me and request it: anabragahenebryatgmaildotcom.
Ana is it possible to put the translation up on the blog? It may be a copyright infringement. I wonder if there is a way to get permission from the author or publisher.
Maureen, I doubt it'd be a copyright infringement--since the translation is nonexistent in the book, and the translation of the last chapter would be of my own hand.
Wonderful! It would be great to have it available on the internet. I'd love to read it!
It's a deal--when I have a spare minute.
